Minnesota United will forgo the style points at this stage of the 2023 season. The key thing Wednesday was the Loons ended a six-match winless streak with a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo at Allianz Field. The Loons took the first half but it should have been more. But given how MNUFC had been shut out in three of its last four matches, they will take what they can get.In the 14th minute, United’s press forced a Houston turnover, and Bongi Hlongwane took advantage of the gift with a toe-poke goal for his team-leading third goal of the season. After Ibrahim Aliyu’s shot went off the corner of the goalposts in the 22nd minute and Dayne St. Clair was needed for a sweeper-keeper moment 40 yards away from goal, the Loons had three golden scoring chances.Steve Clark denied them all. First it was a double save of Franco Fragapane and Hlongwane in the 43rd minute and Luis Amarilla’s header in the 45th minute.Clark was there again with a shoulder save to deny Fragapane early in the second half.Th...Girls state badminton: Edina breaks through for first state title

Claire Watz has competed in state tournaments in other activities. But the Edina High School sophomore never came away satisfied with her own performance.“I always seemed to lose under pressure,” she said. That certainly wasn’t the case Wednesday during the state badminton team tournament, played on her home court at Edina High School.Watz’s two wins at No. 4 singles proved decisive in both the Hornets’ 4-3 upset over seven-time defending champion Johnson in the semifinals and their 4-3 victory over Burnsville in the state title match.“In other activities, it seems like we’ve gotten to state and haven’t come through,” said Watz, who also participates in speech, debate and mock trial. “But today we did and I couldn’t be happier.“It feels unbelievable right now.”It was the first state badminton title for Edina and the 199th state team title at the school overall. The Hornets finished 16-5, overcoming an injury that kept No. 1 singles player Betsy Lundberg out for three weeks during the...A fracture, a contusion and a strain: Twins’ loss in L.A. extra painful

LOS ANGELES — Nick Gordon fouled a ball off his right shin and crumpled to the dirt in pain. Four innings later, Joey Gallo did the same.Gallo was still dealing with considerable swelling after the game, but he avoided a fracture. Gordon wasn’t quite as lucky. The Twins’ utilityman suffered a fractured shin, manager Rocco Baldelli said, and is expected to miss considerable playing time.To top things off, second baseman Jorge Polanco also left early, straining his hamstring while running to first on a groundball in the fourth inning of what for the Twins became a quite painful 7-3 loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon. That makes Thursday’s off day in Southern California particularly well-timed as the Twins assess the injuries and sift through potential roster replacements.Polanco said after the game that his hamstring felt tight, but he and the team would see how it feels on Friday and go from there.“What happened to me last year (with injuries), it made me more aware,” P...Limousine safety after Schoharie trial verdict

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -Since the Schoharie limo crash happened in 2018, the state has become stricter when it comes to what limos meet standards. ST. LOUIS – According to data from CARFAX, more than 2.5 million vehicles tagged with “do not drive” or “park outside” safety recalls remain unrepaired as of May 1, 2023.“I worry there is recall fatigue. People have been hearing about recalls a lot for the last 10 years,” said Patrick Olsen, editor-in-chief at CARFAX.Olsen is aware of some 200 vehicles from various automakers over multiple model years currently under recall. Just this week, nearly 220,000 Jeep Cherokee’s were recalled due to fire risk. Two weeks prior, BWM issued a “do not drive” warning due to recalled airbags. And in late April, General Motors issues a “park outside” warning on 40,000 recalled pickup trucks.“These are more serious, more urgent recalls than most because they require drivers to do something unusual,” he said. “Either do not drive it, or in the case of a lot of these cars, they get a park outside order which means don’t park it in your garage, don’t park it next to your garage. EUREKA, Mo. - A Eureka homeowner says the city messes up the apron of her driveway. There was a city street project where the City of Eureka paved the street and the aprons of the driveways on the street, except Tina Driver’s. So at her house, half the apron was new, and the other half was old. A large crack formed where the two sides met, and water seeped in.Driver said she did all she could to get city hall to fix the problem it created."Two-thirds of my driveway has the new apron, and the other third does not, so it’s still raised up and cracking," she said. "I’m kind of aggravated that they are not returning my phone calls at the street department. I’ve left three messages. I haven’t gotten any emails back. I think it's pretty rude because we do pay our taxes, and at least they could respond."
