COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri Republican on Wednesday proposed constitutional amendments that would allow exceptions to the state's near-total abortion ban in cases of rape, incest and fatal abnormalities.Suburban St. Louis resident Jamie Corley, 36, proposed the constitutional amendments to allow those exceptions up until viability, which typically is around 24 weeks. The exception for rape would only apply if the assault is reported to a crisis hotline.Another proposal Corley filed would allow abortions for any reason up to 12 weeks into pregnancy. All of her proposals would shield those seeking abortions and health care providers from criminal prosecution and civil penalties.Missouri now bans almost all abortions, which Corley said is “completely out of line with voters.” The only exception is for medical emergencies. Published Sun, 24 Nov 2024 04:13:18 GMT
The Internal Revenue Service has again raised the possibility that some taxpayers will need to report Colorado’s state tax refunds as income on their federal returns — and that money could be taxed.Colorado officials are still sussing out what the new guidance, issued Wednesday, will mean for taxpayers who receive refunds of excessive tax collections through the Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights, or TABOR. It’s not the first time they’ve differed with the IRS.But Gov. Jared Polis called the federal agency’s new view “absurd,” saying in a statement that it could “cost Coloradans money and confuse people, and I call on the Biden administration to reverse course.”After receiving record rebates in 2022 — $750 per taxpayer — Coloradans can expect hundreds of dollars in refunds again this upcoming tax season, according to nonpartisan state economists.“The (Colorado) Department of Revenue is still analyzing the impacts o...Police ask public’s help in locating suspect in Denver triple shooting with two dead

Nearly two weeks after a woman was senselessly killed over a Pride flag hanging outside of her shop, some San Bernardino Mountain communities are showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community by flying the flag outside other businesses and even some residences. After making disparaging remarks about the Pride flag outside her store, Mag Pi, on Aug. 18, officials say Travis Ikeguchi, 27, a Cedar Glen resident, shot and killed 66-year-old Laura Ann Carleton. After the shooting, authorities say Ikeguchi fled the scene on foot but was shot and killed by deputies following a confrontation. “Every time we see those flags, it feels like that’s a safe space,” Natalie Camunas, with Digital Mountaineers, told KTLA. In mountain communities like Cedar Glen, Lake Arrowhead and Running Springs, you’ll now find more businesses and some homes decorated with the Pride flag as a show of solidarity and to rally together in the wake of the tragic killing.
